Audi bonnet release repair kit

1.What is the problem/symptoms?

On older Audis, the bonnet release mechanism will stop working due to the failure of a small plastic part that connects the release handle to the release cable.

Before failure the car user might feel increased resistance when operating the bonnet release. At the time of failure, the mechanism will go from resistance to no resistance. All following attempts to operate the handle will have no feedback.

2.What is the cause?

There is no one cause, it is a mix of factors that contribute to this problem.

We considered the following ones:

  • the design of the part
  • the aging of the plastic materials
  • the increase of resistance in the bonnet release mechanism due to the system not being operated and lubricated periodically
  • the way in witch the user operates the handle (moderate load vs dynamic load)

3.What is the Solution?

Our solution consists of a redesigned custom 3D printed part. This part will save you from ordering all the bonnet release assembly and also will allow for a easy install, with less labor cost.

The current version has a minimalist design.

4.Will this part work on my car?

At this point in time we can confirm that is works on the Audi A4 A5 B8 generation LHD and RHD. At the same time we are confident that it also works on many more cars. Based on our research we are recommending this kit for:

  • Audi A3 S3 (2013~2016)
  • Audi A4 S4 B8 generation (2009+)
  • Audi A5 S5 (2008~2016)
  • Audi A6 S6
  • Audi A7 S7
  • Audi Q5 Sq5

Our product will work with:

8T1 823 633
8T2 823 633
8T1 823 533
8T2 823 533

Also take a visual check… if your bonnet release handle looks like this, more than likely it should work. Please also confirm with us so that if you order is not compatible we can sort the return and refund.

5.how do you install?

Because I sold my Audi A4 before considering to make a tutorial regarding the install, please be forgiving with me as I will describe from memory an install recommendation more than a install tutorial.

6.how do you prevent?

The best thing that you can do is periodically lubricate and operate your Audi’s bonnet release mechanism. This will include the bonnet lock and the cable in all the points where you have access. Use a lubricating spray (even WD40 should help). Don’t use sprays that turn into solid grease as those will increase resistance.

Don’t forget to be “gentile” when operating the release. A progressive load will better than a dynamic one.
